Overview
I designed and developed this instructor-led train-the-trainers eLearning course to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge, skills, and methodologies needed to effectively train others to deliver instruction within the domain of emotional intelligence. By providing training on instructional techniques, presentation skills, and facilitation methods, the workshop aims to cultivate a cadre of proficient trainers who can pass on their expertise, ensuring consistent and high-quality training across an organization or community.
Process
I acted as the subject matter expert (SME) and drew from my experience with social emotional learning in the educational setting as a teacher. I began by researching the five components of emotional intelligence including strategies for its effective use in the workplace and how it relates to and affects individuals in those environments. With that information, I created a slide presentation in MS PowerPoint that included speaker notes, as well as both a facilitator and instructor guide in MS Word. The visuals for the slides were created using both Canva and Adobe Express.
A slide from the PowerPoint I created with its simplistic design, adhering to Mayer's Multimedia Principles.
An page from the Facilitator Guide I created showing a snapshot of the slides, what the trainer should say, and any activities to be done.
Results and Takeaways
As a former teacher, who brought social emotional learning (SEL), to the classroom everyday, it was not difficult to be the subject matter expert (SME) while designing this train the trainers course. Designing the facilitator and participant guides for ease of use and to align with the training material in the PowerPoint presentation was challenging, however, it took me out of my comfort zone and I attained new skills to apply to future instructional design (ID) projects.
